A great bookstore is a reflection of its community – a place where people of all ages can come to discover, be entertained, or just relax.  StarrBooks is such a bookstore and more!   We offer those unique features that reflect the needs of our community and of those who are passing through.

Located in Historic Olde Towne Gainesville, just across from the Cooke County Courthouse, the store is housed in an old, historical building of age and character.  The Watts Building, as it has always been known, was built in 1890.  In 1915  it became a drugstore replete with a pharmacy and soda fountain.   It was Watts Bros. Pharmacy for 89 years up until 2004 when StarrBooks made the move - a perfect match.

StarrBooks  “is not your average book store”.  We are Gainesville’s only full service bookstore featuring Cowboy Poetry books and recorded poems, music, and stories.  April of 2005, the 1st Consecutive Cowboy Poet’s Celebration was held.  We look forward to 2006.  Presently the date has not been set yet.  Complimenting the rich history of Gainesville, there is a great selection of local and surrounding area genealogy and history books.  Likely, no better collection anywhere of Gainesville, Cooke County and North Texas books to be found.

There are aisles of new and used collectible first edition hard covers, rows of autographed editions. A nice selection of new releases and current publications, many of the titles you will not find just anywhere where new books are sold.  If you are looking for local or regional books, new or used, non-fiction and fiction alike, we have the best selection around.  Texana – of course.

Our wide ranging selection of gently read, used paperbacks will satisfy most anyone on the hunt for a good read.

Can’t find that book you’re looking for?  We’ll special order it for you and have it in a week or less.  Out of print or hard to find titles are our specialty to track down.  Come in, phone, or e-mail your request.

Both kids and their parents love our line of Lights, Camera, Interaction wooden toys and puzzles.  We carry award winning children’s books, chapter books, books for the smallest child, and a hand picked selection of the most wonderful children’s books written, some long ago, some just recently.  All await the young reader.

Besides books, StarrBooks carries greeting cards by Avanti and Leanin’ Tree.  We have antique postcards and new postcards.  That clientele who for years came into our location when it was Watts Pharmacy still find we carry Elizabeth Arden cosmetics, Camille Beckman creams and lotions, Carmen Candles and the olde soda fountain which has been here since the turn of the century.  Treat yourself to an old fashion malt, milkshake, float or soda made with Blue Belle IceCream and Braums milk, or an infamous Watt’s Chicken Salad sandwich.

We are what a bookstore used to be, we have been told by many that visit Starrbooks.  Our working soda fountain to our old fashioned personalized service are only two of all the reasons StarrBooks “is not your average bookstore”
