"Sunset Serenade"

Cowgirl Credentials
Of
Linda Kirkpatrick

I was born and raised on a ranch in South Central Texas.  My ranch life experience is the foundation that I needed to research and write about cowboys, cowgirls and life in the west.  I began putting all of this research and experiences into stories and rhyme about nine years ago.

Individually and as a member of the group, Cowboy Sunset Serenade, I have performed at major cowboy gatherings throughout the states of Texas, New Mexico, Louisiana, Nevada, Arizona and Utah.
Cowboy Sunset Serenade has been featured on Texas Country Reporter, Texas Highways Magazine and we are participants in the Texas Touring Arts Program which is funded by the Texas Commission on the Arts.  Our group can be seen regularly at Garner State Park during the summer months.  I have performed individually for state parks, schools, festivals, women’s groups and various cowboy gatherings.

Many of my stories and poems can be found in my book, “Somewhere in the West” and in the AWA Cowboy Poetry Book of the Year, “The Big Roundup.”  My poetry has been featured with the Australian Broadcasting Company radio show, “Don’t Fence Me In.”  I have had poems and articles featured in “Rope Burns”.  Recently some of my stories can be heard on the net radio show, “Waynetta’s Western Roundup” at www.waynettaausmus.com.  My first CD was released in 2005.  A plan for a book of short stories is also in the making!

I was a featured poet at the Cowboy Symposium in Camp Wood, Texas, George West Storyfest in George West, Texas, New Braunfels Music Museum in New Braunfels and the Real County Historical Commission Meeting.  I have performed for the Red Hatters District Meeting, The Alamo Gayla, the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and Texas Ranger Cross Dedications in Junction, Texas and Louisiana.

Some of my work can be read on my page at www.cowboypoetry.com

I was a Silver Buckle winner at the Western Legends Roundup and Cowboy Poetry Rodeo in Kanab, Utah in 2004.  I was also the top winner of the Writer’s Contest at the Camp Wood Symposium.
In Camp Wood I won two first places, one second and two third places in poetry writing & reciting, short stories and essays.  I am currently in the Top Five for Female Cowboy Poet with the Academy of Western Artists with the winner to be announced in July of 2005.

I conducted a  semester class with the Gifted and Talented students of Leakey School.  I have also worked in area schools, judging oral competitions and writings.

I currently live in my home town of Leakey, Texas.

My first book, “Somewhere in the West”, came out in 2001 and is now in it’s second printing.  The book was named in the top five with the Academy of Western Artist for the Book of the Year in 2001.
